The fight for the future of Flushing Meadows Corona Park isn’t over—and your voice is needed now more than ever. You’ve seen the many articles we wrote about this parkland theft Steve Cohen is stealing from you, with the help of a few corrupt politicians.
On September 30, the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) unanimously approved Queens Future’s Metropolitan Park proposal to build a casino in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. But approval from the CAC doesn’t mean the project is a done deal. The developers still need a license from the state Gaming Facility Location Board and Gaming Commission—and that’s where community pressure can make all the difference.
This Sunday, October 5, neighbors, advocates, and concerned residents will come together for a powerful community-led March Against the Casino. The event will begin at 1 PM at Corona Plaza and culminate in a rally and People’s Hearing at the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park at 2:30 PM. This is a chance to elevate the voices that were sidelined during the CAC process and to show decision-makers that Queens deserves better than a casino in its public parkland.
Why March?
- To protect public space from privatization and gambling interests.
- To demand transparency and true community input in development decisions.
- To stand up for a vision of Queens that prioritizes parks, families, and inclusive growth…not making out-of-state billionaires even more wealthy.
