Since August, I, Joelle Galatan, an EQGA member, have been working with Bike New York’s Learn-to-Ride program, as well as schools that serve children with intellectual disabilities such as ELIJA (Empowering Long Island through Its Journey with Autism) to help create and organize a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for individuals ages eight and up to learn how to ride a bicycle.
While our first class back in August only drew five people, our last two classes have had twenty participants at each class. New York One recorded our most recent class.
One parent whose son has attended all of the past classes stated that,
My 11-year old son and I are so happy to have found the Bike NY team. The volunteers are friendly, patient and effective; my son learned to ride a bike on his own at the start of his second class! It is amazing to see the community come together and support my son and other kids like him.
Our next class is November 12th. All of our classes take place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If one would be interested in signing up they can do so by using this link:
