Council Member Barry S. Grodenchik recently allocated $45,000 out of the Fiscal Year 2017 budget to purchase Polar Trac equipment to clear snow from Cunningham Park paths. The equipment is thin enough to fit on pedestrian paths that normal plows could not and is lighter so will not damage the path the way a normal car or truck would. When not in use it will be stored in the Cunningham Garage.
At the unavailing Dorothy Lewandowski, Queens Borough Commissioner of New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, said, “We’re very happy to unveil these new Polar Trac units, which will help us to maintain Cunningham Park faster and more efficiently, year-round. Thanks to Council Member Grodenchik for this allocation to keep the park clean, green, and cleared of snow.”
Council Member Barry S. Grodenchik said, “I am pleased to help make the park more accessible year round, and I will continue working with the Department of Parks and Recreation on future improvements to Cunningham Park. I thank Friends of Cunningham Park for its continued and steadfast advocacy.
