City Council Member Barry S. Grodenchik has been elected to chair of the Committee on Parks and Recreation for the next four years. This committee oversees all of the city’s parks, which make up 14% of the city.
A long time friends of the parks, Barry Grodenchik recently allocated $45,000 for a snow removal equipment for Cunningham Park and was able to secure $5.25 million for repaving the Motor Parkway, partially from the support of Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Council Member Grodenchik was quoted,
I am honored to have been elected by my colleagues as chair of the parks committee. As a lifelong New Yorker who grew up in city parks and the current representative of a district with over a thousand acres of parkland, I welcome the opportunity to work to improve the parks that are vital to every community in the city. I thank Speaker Corey Johnson for his support and look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee as well as with Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver and his staff.
The Eastern Queens Greenway hopes to continue to work with Council Member Grodenchik to create a family safe, protected path through our parks from Joe Michaels Mile to Flushing Meadows / Corona Park. All of our neighbors deserve safe access to their parkland. We’re confident Council Member Grodenchik can make positive change for all parks across New York City.
Congratulations!
